THIS DUDE THINKS HE'S A WRITER

AND WORSE YET, HE THINKS HE'S GONNA GET PAID

"People have told other people, 'Jon has the best stories!' And that is a big part of why I started writing them down. But in truth, I've always been a storyteller."

THIS DUDE THINKS HE'S A WRITER

Jon sez, "As a young kid I started writing short stories, my second grade teacher Mrs. Bingham was the first to encourage me. She told my mom that she thought I was gifted at it, and that I was the most creative artist she'd had as a student. My grade school in Mountain View, CA, San Ramon Elementary, was very progressive and leaned heavily into the arts. Steve Jobs attended a few years ahead of me and I'm sure the school had a major impact on him. I know it did on me."

"By 4th grade I was writing and drawing my own comic book called 'The Daily Crud' and printing them up on the school memeograph printer. That do-it-yourself (DIY) mindset has been a big part of my artistic expression my entire life. I've always considered my projects as "outsider art," long before I knew there was a term for it. I'm a multi-media artist and an entrepreneur with a DIY punk-rock edge. I'm proud of my work even if it is not widely recognized. I do it because I'm driven to do it. My art is made for me first and foremost."

"My main focus now is on writing. I've noticed a lot of my other interests are falling off lately, and I'm becoming extremely focused on one mode of expression... which is unusual for me."

SOME BACKGROUND ON THIS DUDE

  • SAN FRANCISCO'S HOTTEST COLD CASE

Exposing a police cover-up and solving a murder

When Jon was 9, his father was murdered in San Francisco and the killer was never brought to justice. 40 years after the crime the family got their first look at the case file and discovered everything they had been told was a lie. Over the next 10 years, Jon spent all of this free time conducting an investigation. What he learned blew the case wide open.

    2020 EMMY-AWARD NOMINATION

    A Hard Won Achievement

There were five cartoon shows in the running for an Emmy in 2020, they all lost to Mickey Mouse (what else is new?). This nomination was especially sweet for Jon, who had been tempted to quit the show due to illegal harassment (according to California law) on the part of his boss. He wound up getting "fired" only to end up with this nomination!

    NIGHT OF THE LOVING DEAD

Romance Is Alive And Well... Or Is It?

Jon Kinyon wrote and directed this parody of the classic horror film Night of the Living Dead by George A. Romero. It's one of his favorite projects and he shares it for free on the internet every year around Halloween. The film is available for free download.

    THE JIMI HOMELESS EXPERIENCE

    Are You Homeless ?

Jimi Homeless started out as a twisted cartoon strip. It evolved quickly into a full-blown satire/parody enterprise, complete with clamation short films and two CDs of parody songs. The band then began to perform live shows in and around Hollywood.

    GOD SQUAD! HOLLYWOOD & DIVINE

A book based on the movie

Jon wrote, produced and directed this comedy film which parodied Christian Films and 1970s "Buddy Cop" Films. It had a fair amount of success on the film festival circuit in the early 2000s. Many years later, Jon wrote a short book based on the film and included many scenes and dialog orginally cut out of the short film (mostly for budget reasons).

    HOT ROD CONDOMSĀ®

    With Speedstrip Applicator!

Launched in 1994, this condom brand came to market at the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis and likely saved lives. That was its greatest success. Market forces and the economic uncertainty following the terrorist attacks of 9/ll did the company in.

    WASTELAND TELEVISION

    It's Open Season On TV

Jon Kinyon cut his teeth creating sketch comedy on public access TV. Problem was, he was far too controversial for some. His brand of dark humor is not quite ready for prime time, will it ever be?
